Philips Hue’s Play HDMI Sync Box 8K sits at the top of the Hue entertainment range, competing with other “ambient TV lighting” systems by syncing your room lighting to what’s on screen. It takes the video signal from your HDMI devices and matches Hue colour-capable lights in real time, aiming for a more cinema-like glow around the TV rather than a static backlight. Note that it’s the Sync Box only, you’ll also need a Philips Hue Bridge and Hue White and Colour Ambiance lights, sold separately.
Who is this for?
Console and home cinema setups benefit most, especially if you want 4K at 120Hz or 8K at 60Hz while keeping responsive lighting effects. It won’t sync content from built-in TV apps, so you’ll want to use external streamers, set-top boxes, or games consoles.
- Connect up to 4 HDMI devices, then switch between them for synced lighting
- Supports up to 10 Hue colour-capable lights for a fuller room effect
- Control via the Hue app, voice assistants, or an infra-red TV remote
