Nintendo’s Switch 2 sits at the top of the hybrid console range, competing with handheld PCs and traditional living-room consoles by letting you play the same system in handheld, tabletop, or docked TV mode. It keeps the familiar Switch idea but pushes display and output support forward, with a larger 7.9-inch 1080p screen for portable play and up to 4K output when connected to a compatible TV and game (4K is capped at 60fps).
Who is Switch 2 for?
It makes most sense if you want a single console that works on the sofa and on the move, and you like Nintendo’s first-party exclusives. The upgraded screen supports HDR, VRR and up to 120fps in compatible titles, which can mean cleaner motion and less tearing. Joy-Con 2 attach magnetically and can act like a mouse in supported games, while GameChat adds quick voice chat and optional video via a Switch 2 camera or compatible USB-C camera (sold separately). Backwards compatibility covers many Switch games, but not all titles are fully supported.
