Liberty City’s grittier chapter lands on Xbox One via backwards compatibility, sitting in Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto line between the sun soaked excess of San Andreas and the glossy sprawl of GTA V. GTA IV leans harder into story and atmosphere than pure sandbox chaos, with a more grounded tone and heavier driving and shooting feel that still sets it apart from newer open world rivals.
Who is this for?
If you missed it first time round, this is the one to play for its character led narrative and the sense of place in Liberty City. Niko Bellic’s immigrant story gives missions more weight, and the city feels dense and lived in, even by modern standards. Returning players get a very different flavour to GTA V, less spectacle, more mood, plus plenty of side activities when you want a break from the main plot.
- Xbox One compatible, runs through backwards compatibility, so no old console needed.
- Single player focus, strongest when you stick with the campaign and city exploration.
